Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 13, 2026
Booky is a reading tracker and journal. This policy explains what information Booky collects, why, and the choices you have. Booky is run by Booky ("we", "us").
What we collect
- Account details: your email address, and your name and profile photo if you add them or sign in with Google.
- Your reading: the books on your shelves, reading progress, notes, quotes, reviews, reading memories, goals and wishlist.
- Community activity: posts, comments, likes, follows, buddy reads and messages you send to other readers.
- Photos you choose to add, such as a profile photo or photos on a memory. Memory photos stay on your phone unless you share them.
- Device information needed to send you notifications (a push token) and basic crash reports to help us fix problems.
- Purchase status if you subscribe to Booky Plus. Payments are handled by Google Play; we never see your card details.
How we use it
- To run the app: save your library and memories and sync them across your devices.
- To show you books you may like, based on what you read and rate.
- To send notifications you can turn off at any time, such as new followers, buddy read messages and reading reminders.
- To keep the community safe and to fix bugs.
We do not sell your personal information, we do not show ads, and we do not use advertising IDs. The camera is used on your phone to scan barcodes and quotes; those images are read on the phone and are not uploaded unless you use Ask Booky with a photo.
Who we share it with
Only with services that help us run Booky, and only what they need:
- Supabase stores your account and reading data.
- Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging) and Expo deliver notifications to your phone.
- Google Play and RevenueCat handle subscriptions.
- Sentry receives crash reports.
- OpenAI processes the question you type, and the photo if you choose to send one, when you use Ask Booky. Nothing is sent to OpenAI unless you use that feature.
- Tenor (Google) receives your search words when you look for a GIF in a chat.
- Book data services (such as Open Library, Google Books, ISBNdb and Apple's public book search) are used to look up book details and covers; we send them book titles, authors, ISBNs or the words you search for, not your personal information.
Anything you post publicly in the community (public reviews, posts, your profile name and photo) can be seen by other readers.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open. When you delete your account in the app, your data is deleted right away. If you ask us by email instead, we delete it within 30 days. Nothing is kept afterwards, except where the law requires us to keep something longer.
Your choices and rights
- See, edit or export your data in the app (Settings → Account → Backup & restore).
- Delete your account at any time in the app (Settings → Account → Delete my account) or by following the steps on our account deletion page.
- Turn notifications on or off in Settings → Notifications.
- If you live in the EU or UK, you can also ask us to access, correct, restrict or move your data, object to how we use it, or complain to your data protection authority.
Children
Booky is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has given us their information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy in an important way, we will tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
